Recycling and garbage collection

If your fridge or freezer is more than 10 years old, please consult the Recyc-Frigo website for pickup.

Recycling

Pickup schedule:
Recycling is picked up every Wednesday. There is no set time for pickup during the day but the bins should be by the street as early as 7:00 am.

What can be picked up:
The recycling truck will only pickup recyclable contents in the new larger (360 litre) bins. They will not pick up recycled materials in the old smaller square bins or placed outside of the new bins. The new bins have ample space to accomodate more than a weeks worth of recycled material.

Where to place the bins:
The bins should be placed a maximum of 2 meters or less from the paved surface of the street and positioned with the recycling logo facing the street (wheels facing towards the house). Putting the bins too far on the street can make snow clearing difficult or could even create a dangerous situation with car traffic. Placing the bins too far away from the street can make it difficult for the recycling truck owner to collect.

Broken or additional bins:
If your bin is broken, you require a second bin or need more information, please call Paul Boudreau (Assistant Director, Technical Services) at 450-458-0222 (extension 205).
You can also email him using the contact form.

Garbage

Pickup schedule:
Schedule for garbage pick-up

What can be picked up:
Standard household waste can be picked up. For items like batteries, tires and oils, most automobile service stations can accept these and send them off for proper reprocessing. For paints and hazardous chemicals, the Town of Hudson will advertise a time for a special collection of these materials (normally at the municipal garage). Disposable batteries can be dropped off at the Hudson Hardware.

Fridges and Freezers
Functional - If you wish to dispose of your fridge or freezer and it is still functional, go to Recyc-Frigo. This Hydro Quebec program offers to pickup and pay $60 for fridges and freezers over 10 years old.
Non-Functional - Fridges and freezers that are not in working condition will be picked up on the street during regular trash collection days. You must contact Town Hall at 450-458-5347 before depositing these appliances at the street for collection.

Where to place the refuse:
Garbage should be in air tight containers, approximately 2 meters or less from the paved surface of the street.

Weight limit:
The weight limit set by the Health and Safety Commission is 50 pounds (22.67 kilograms).

Proper recycling and garbage disposal is in everyone's best interest. The less we send to landfills the better.
